Battery in boot
Discussion
I can't get at my boot at the moment but I can tell you it is mounted on a steel plate glassed to the bodywork, as low as you can go in the cill area behind the r/o/s wheel arch. The battery is held to the plate simply by a strap. There is plenty of room inside the cill to run the cable to the front of the car and the starter.
Hi Bill
I don't have any photos to hand, but in the V8S the battery is mounted on a metal tray/frame that sits lengthways behind the offside rear wheel arch. Attached to the back of the 'frame' is the washer bottle. The frame has feet to raise the tray off the floor of the boot allowing the washer pipe to route to the front of car. The battery cables come through a hole in the bulkhead above the fuel tank, where it meets the wheel arch, at a similar height to the top of the battery when mounted in the frame/tray.
The (not immediately obvious) issue with this arrangement is that the battery is a very tight fit when locating it into the frame, given the angles and limited space involved. You will see on the V8S forum numerous threads about correct battery size/dimensions.

Another problem is that if/when the metal tray breaks loose it vibrates against the body and can cause the paint to craze and in the worst cases, the vibrating metal cvan wear through the bodywork.Alan was looking at moulding a mounting out of foam which would solve a lot of these problems. Don't bother about putting the water bottle here. If/when it leaks (or you over-fill it) the boot gets soaked. This will give you more room for your battery and make the dimensions less of an issue.

Wanted the battery out of the engine bay, ended up screwing the battery tray to the grp behind the bumper because the fixings could be hidden and have a good amount of grp to fix to
Wanted to have it lower in the boot but couldn't get a good fix to anything solid.
Cable runs along the chassis rail to the starter.
Improved the engine bay
First you need a funny shaped piece of wood....
Cover with carpet and fit a ratchet strap....
Bolt into right hand side of boot....
Fit battery and securely strap....
More wood and carpet to hide all your handy work....
Positive cable is threaded through the near side sill, into the boot and "P clipped" up to the bolts that hold the rear of the hood down.
Negative (earth) goes through boot to attach to the chassis.
I've added an isolator switch for safety when doing maintenance, easy disconnect if anything starts smoking and could be used as an added security measure (if you have an "alternative" way to open the boot )

That ratchet is a bloody big lump of metal near the battery terminals??
"Special" non conductive metal Photo maybe makes it look closer than it is, unless it somehow came open it cannot span the two terminals.
and I have an insulation boot over the negative terminal
and I'm happy enough it ain't gonna short out
Not as "dodgey" as these horrible things. I've seen these fitted along the terminal side of a battery.... now that is too close for comfort!
